Revolutionary Ships, Revolutionary Sailors

My most recent academic project, developed through the University of Southern California’s Scalar software. Revolutionary Ships is a series of vignettes designed to explore the ways in which eighteenth-century maritime technology sat at the heart of the Age of Atlantic Revolutions. I center key technologies of eighteenth-century Atlantic vessels alongside contemporary scholarly work in order prove two things: an understanding of maritime technology enriches our historical landscape, and that complex maritime knowledge can be accessible to broader audiences.

In order to create an engaging and original product, I hand-illustrated a multitude of figures and employed a non-traditional approach to the project’s format. The result is a creative approach to the Age of Atlantic Revolutions which explores how structure and methodology can create accessible history without compromising on academic rigor.
